A non definitive history of NLP - Neuro Linguistic Programming

In the 70's John Grinder was a professor and Richard Bandler was a student at Santa Cruz University in California.  They were curious about how certain people in a particular field e.g psychotherapy,  achieved results way above their peers. They decided to study them to find this magic formula as to what it was that these gifted individuals did differently.

What was the difference in their methodology that made the difference?

The people they studied were:

  • Virginia Satir - the mother of family therapy
  • Fritz Perls a gifted psychologist founder of the Gestalt school.
  • Milton Erickson - a maverick hypnotherapist.
  • Gregory Bateson a master of linguistics
  • Carlos Castenada - an anthropologist who became a student of a legendary Shaman Don Juan.

The Result:

They formed a group of friends who developed a methodology that was very creative and specific. This took the form of several exercises that helped develop strategies and techniques for understanding how the mind works and how to facilitate change quickly and powerfully without the need for years of therapy.

In short a software manual for the human mind......
